Tachecki’s decided to take a leap of faith and take out a lease on the business, working in the shop for one year before buying the property and fulfilling Jane’s dream of owning her own business. Michael was a retired police officer and former captain of Dover Police, ready to kick back and take it easy after a long career when Jane brought up the idea, but he couldn’t be prouder to see the Grocer operating three generations later and still in the family! The family has always placed an emphasis on serving the community and neighborhood with anything they may need, and TONS of great sandwiches! Their son, Todd retired from DNREC in the late 90s and has been running The Little Grocer for the past 20 years with his sons Matt and Adam. Today, you are almost guaranteed to meet some of the family when you stop in, you may even be lucky enough to meet Poppop (Mike) and hear one of his old jokes or stories. Although the shop has not changed much over three decades, the future looks bright as the store evolves into one of the best places to grab fresh and fast takeout in all of Dover! Todd, Matt, Adam and the rest of the grocer crew make over a thousand sandwiches and salads every week and there is still the same emphasis on “putting love into the food you make and they’ll keep coming back,” that Mike and Jane instilled in the family generations ago!

Just Lovely!
Lovely little neighborhood grocery and deli. The staff was super friendly, the prices were great, and the sandwiches are delicious! So glad we found this gem on our way through Dover!

Feel Good place!
I’ve got to say this is my favorite hoagie sandwich place. The prices are great, everyone is super friendly, the service is fast. They have this board with the question of the day, if you get it right (without googling) you get .50 cents off your sandwich. Always feel welcome.
